Festival Market

oil on board 24"x30" 2019-2020

private collection

This painting was commissioned for a local lawyer who's office(s) are located in this building. His wife set it up as a surprise gift ... brilliant.

I had avoided painting this building previously because I assumed it was new architecture made to look old. After a little research I learned it is one of the oldest buildings downtown but was completely restored. That somehow made me more enthusiastic about the whole project.

This was painted entirely on site. I began in December and worked on it through January or Febuary 2020. I would show up 2-3 hours before dusk and usually worked from the top to the bottom trying to catch the sunlight moving across the upper half of the building and painted the artificial lights on street level as the evening crept in.
